Think there’s nothing to do by the shore in the winter? Think again! Long Beach Island lights up this time of year – literally. You can enjoy some cold weather activities or get into the holiday spirit with local municipalities. Check out some ideas below:

Visit a Museum

Long Beach Island has a lot of exciting history attached to it. From the days where the population was only double digits to super storms, industrial advancements, wives tales, and societal elites – you’ll be entertained for hours. Some of the best places to start out include LBI’s Maritime Museum, The Barnegat Lighthouse, and LBI Museum. You can even do your own research and go on a hunt throughout the island to find historic landmarks.

Go Fishing

Surf fishing can be a year-round sport – if you can handle the cold temperatures. But if you can, every catch will be that much more exciting after casting in frigid weather all day. Winters Stripers are the main attraction for cold-weather fishermen. It involves some adjustments from how you reel in during the summer season, but winter fishing can be just as exhilarating and relaxing.

Stay Over Night

Winter is the best time of the year for low hotels rates. You’ll beat the crowds and most likely have a nice quiet, relaxing stay on the island. Some of LBI’s bed & breakfasts are even cozier in the winter season.

Enjoy The Cuisine

Is it too hard to get into your favorite restaurant in the summer? Have you tried the off-season? Many of LBI’s best restaurants stay open annually. Winter time is your best bet to beat the wait times and get into your favorite spot hassle free. You might even find winter specials and drink deals for those who weathered the cold to stop by.

Check out the LBIF

The Long Beach Island Arts & Sciences Foundation is real treat for the area. Locals and visitors alike can indulge in a new craft or hobby,  learn about eco science, and/or catch a show. This foundation caters to children and adults alike and holds classes and events annually.
